Willow
He leans against my rugged skin, seeking
shelter from the sun beneath my bodice.
His voice echoes against my arms and
a young woman sets her gaze upon us.
She sprints and giggles a sweet melody,
a robin that sings in the dawn.
She seeks solace under my canopy
Then two intertwined as one.
Against my feet, they lay bare.
I always remember feeling them there.
Before they depart, they tattoo my torso
As a reminder of where their relationship sewed.
Years pass before I see his face,
she was gone with just that trace.
But now the wind tugs on my hair,
And his infant grasps my hands.
Below my roots her body lays,
And his tears soak the stone
where his infant now plays.
