Empty
The beach is empty today.
Its monstrous waves roar as loud as they please
and crash against the rocks without care for their safety.
The waves know the rocks can’t swim, and they think it’s funny
to flood them with fear as they wash over their heads.
A little rock can’t take the constant strike of the waves anymore
and it is dislodged from its safety between the bigger stones.
The waves snatch the little rock from its home and toss it
back and forth, over and under, like it’s a game. It’s a game
that the rock loses. The waves overtake the little rock
and push it down, too deep to ever return to the surface.
The rock will remain buried under the waves,
and no one will come to look for it. No one will hear its cries from
the beach that’s empty today.

I’m Kinsley, and I am an English-Writing major in my senior year at UWF. The past four years here have been an amazing time to grow in my academic passions, meet new friends, and learn a variety of interesting information. I find a lot of beauty in nature and words, so I am excited to see UWF combining the two in this Nature Trail project.
